When the Porto Pirgos first opened its doors to guests in 1999, it redefined the meaning of luxury. A refined, intimate elegance reigns supreme, with cozy nooks, comfortable chairs, soft lighting, awesome antiques, bouquets of fresh flowers, wrought-iron fixtures, beamed ceilings, thick walls, oil paintings, gorgeous antiques, and richly hued Oriental carpets accenting antique terracotta floors. Adding to the romance are the sea views framed by every window. You cannot help falling in love with this superb small hotel built on a slope of a hill that stretches down to a pristine white-sand beach gently lapped by the crystal sea. Built upon the foundations of a private villa, the hotel today continues to exude the ambiance of an exquisite, fine home. The guestrooms are also furnished with antiques and, like the rest of the hotel, everything is of the highest quality and good taste. A large swimming pool is set in the garden by the hotel and a second pool nestles under towering pine trees next to the beach. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price of the room and not only is the food exceptionally delicious, but the setting is outstanding. The main dining room has a stunning mosaic floor that looks as if it came right out of an old Roman villa. When the weather is balmy, guests eat out on the terrace where, as the sun sets and the stars begin to appear, you can see the volcano of Stromboli on the horizon.
