A dear friend and world traveler highly recommended Masseria Montelauro, giving rave reviews regarding its serene, harmonious ambiance, attentive staff, and exquisite candlelit meals served under the pergola. We also were immediately captivated by the elegant simplicity of this countryside property near the sea. White is the prominent color: on the exterior façade of the ex-monastery, the white-washed walls of bedrooms, the fabrics on the bedspreads, sofas, and cushions. This clean and cool effect is pleasantly complemented by the natural sandy-colored stone walls and floors which contrast with black wrought iron beds and bedside lanterns. Spacious vaulted bedrooms on both ground and first floors have independent entrances and look out either to the front gardens or to the courtyard with inviting borderless pool backed by olive trees. Sleek bathrooms have the amenities of a luxury accommodation. A fresh country breakfast is served in the stone-walled arched dining area or on the outdoor patio. Proprietor, Elisabetta Massaro, and her daughter, Mercedes, have created a discreet and sophisticated hideaway capturing the essence of the Salento area while doing a number on the senses. Enjoy the surrounding landscapes by car, boat, bike or horseback.
