Karen's Review Of This Property:
Rathmullan House has the most tranquil setting amidst mature trees and rose gardens that slope down to a sandy beach, with views of the mountains across Lough Swilly. The second generation of the Wheeler family run the hotel creating a relaxing and friendly atmophere. It’s a delightfully rambling house with large sitting rooms (one in an Indian Raj style) leading to Batt’s bar presided over by the portrait of Mrs. Batt who had Rathmullan house built as her summer home in the 1800s. Here you can enjoy drinks and lighter fare. Three-or four-course dinners are served in the dining room where meters of fabric are gathered into peaks dotted with fairy lights to create softest of lighting and the most romantic of dining atmospheres. Bedrooms are either “view” (garden and lough) or “not” and fall into three categories: Regency; (delectable, subtly themed, oh-so-spacious rooms with terrace or balcony and grand bathrooms of which the two penthouses offer the ultimate in luxury); Balcony (spacious rooms with top of the line bathrooms, terrace or balcony); or Main House (mainly high-ceilinged rooms divided between no view and lough view rooms—try to snag one with a spacious bay-window). Enjoy a walk on the beach, a swim in the pool, a game of tennis or a relaxing massage in the Solace room.
