A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Built as a hotel in the 1880s, by a sea captain who also served as the local rector, Grove House has over the ensuing years attracted famous literati to the extent that Katarina Runske has named her rooms after them. Somerville and Ross (who wrote “The Irish R. M.”) are two queen bedded rooms that look out across the garden to the water. Yeats (the famous painter and brother of the poet), Carberry, and Shaw are the most spacious; Shaw having the original loo in its bathroom. With only one bathroom in the house in times past it is fairly certain that all these men of letters used it. Dinner is a real treat cooked by Katarina, her mum and son Nico. Max, Katarina's other son, makes sure guests are well taken care of. Toast your toes by the fire in the sitting room and decide where you would like to go the next day. You’ll be spoilt for choice: a ferry to the beautiful Cape Clear or Sherkin Island, a summer evening boat trip to Fasnet Island Lighthouse (Ireland’s tallest most southerly lighthouse—the last piece of Ireland emigrants saw as they sailed for America), golf, walking, diving, or visiting scenic Mizen Head.
