Karen's Review Of This Property:
Tinakilly House maintains the purpose for which it was designed—gracious living. The house was built in the 1870s by Captain Robert Halpin, the commander of the ship Great Eastern, which laid the first telegraph cable connecting Europe to America. Tinakilly House’s ornate staircase is reputed to be a copy of the one on this ship. Whether or not this is true is a matter of conjecture, but the Captain certainly spared no expense when he built this classical house with its fine, pitch-pine doors and shutters and ornate plasterwork ceilings. The original house has been extended with rooms that fit in perfectly. The house is furnished with appropriate Victorian furniture, and there’s a welcoming charm to the place. Some of the bedrooms have four-poster beds, while all twenty junior suites and two captain suites have sea views. Dining is a delight. Tinakilly is an ideal countryside base for exploring Dublin, Glendalough, and the Wicklow Mountains.
