Blanchville House Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

Kilkenny is a most attractive, historic town, and there is no more perfect a base for exploring its many charms than Blanchville House, a 15-minute drive away. Acres of farmland give this handsome Georgian home seclusion. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see a tall, square, church tower-like folly. Inside Blanchville House, tall-ceilinged, generously proportioned rooms are the order of the day, and Monica has several pieces of furniture that were made for the house. One of these is the half-tester bed that graces the principal bedroom. Apparently Sir James Kearny, a great eccentric, was fond of waxing and singeing his mustache, an operation he performed in his bed. One day, while practicing this routine, he set fire to the bedding and narrowly escaped burning the house down. There’s a portrait of Sir James in the drawing room, which has the wallpaper hung in 1823: guests enjoy a drink here before going in to dine together round the long polished table. Three lovely self-catering cottages (one handicap friendly) are found in the old stables and gardener’s cottage (sleeps 3 to 6).
