The Shelbourne Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

When it first opened in the heart of Dublin in 1824, The Shelbourne offered a suitably handsome “home away from home” for Irish nobility and landed gentry. Today, this legendary grande dame welcomes a wider spectrum of guests–including the city’s politicians and literati–but is still the place to stay, a luxurious, elegant hotel that easily lives up to its maxim as “the most distinguished address in Ireland.” The comings and goings of Dublin socialites are reflected in the enormous mirror in the lobby as they pass on their way to the Lord Mayor’s Lounge for afternoon tea, to the lively Horseshoe Bar for cocktails, to the contemporary Saddle Room for steak and seafood, or for a drink overlooking St. Stephen’s Green in Number 27 Bar and Lounge. The beautifully appointed bedrooms include 19 suites, each named after a famous guest. You might consider treating yourself to the Princess Grace Suite, an opulent two-bedroom affair favored by the princess on her visits to Dublin. And be sure to visit the Constitution Room (known then as Room 112), which played an important role in the founding of the Irish nation), as it was here that the Irish Constitution was drafted in 1922.

The Shelburne is a wonderful place to stay. We originally booked a modern boutique hotel, but changed to The Shelburne. The atmosphere is elegant, but not stuffy. The staff is attentive, but unobtrusive. The Lord Mayor's Lounge is a nice retreat where you can relax and enjoy a lovely afternoon tea. We would definitely return here, the rooms are very nicely appointed and the hotel is in a great location. A+++++++!
