Karen's Review Of This Property:
We first stayed at the Hotel auf der Wartburg, located in what was formerly East Germany, in 1990 (only a few days after the reunification of Germany). On our second visit a few years later, we were astounded at the miraculous changes. Bathless guestrooms with outdated, dreary decor had emerged like butterflies from their cocoons into some of the best-looking rooms in all of Germany. Each of the bedrooms is individual in decor, yet all have the same refined, English-country-manor look with beautiful fabrics used in the color-coordinated draperies and upholstered chairs. One of my favorites, number 104 (a deluxe corner room decorated in rich greens and yellows) looks out to the forest. Less expensive room 102 (overlooking the front courtyard) is also a charmer in tones of reds and golds. Some of the most romantic rooms are tucked up under the eaves with tiny garret windows capturing miniature views of the wooded hills. Just steps from the hotel is the museum section of Wartburg Castle, one of Germany’s real gems.
