Karen's Review Of This Property:
Along the Fairy Tale Road, in the town of Petershagen, lies this restored fortress built in 1306 for the Bishop and Baron of Minden. From the courtyard, an impressive sculpted stone spiral staircase leads to the welcoming reception and lobby area decorated in the classical style. Given the medieval history of the building, the rooms are all different in size and style, with double windows that open up to either the River Weser or the pretty inner courtyard. Each room is finely decorated with unique wooden furniture, impressive headboards, draped four-poster beds with rich fabrics. Room #15 has a huge antique painted wooden bed so you can sleep like royalty. The glass-enclosed Orangerie offers buffet breakfast and gourmet dinners with views of the valley and flowing river. Schloss Petershagen has been in the Hestermann family since 1901, and lovingly collected history is on display throughout. The architecture and historical pieces make a stay here equal to a museum visit. Try to see the impressive Kurfürstenzimmer, with the castle’s original oven as centerpiece. A nearby electric plant and highway at first seemed oddly close, but does not distract. The tranquil countryside and sheep grazing across the river made our visit all the more enjoyable.
Romantik Hotel Guide's Description:
Petershagen Castle had already been standing on the banks of the Weser for 184 years when Columbus discovered the Americas. Nowadays the Romantik Hotel is a lovingly-restored fortress with a magnificent location overlooking the Weser countryside, with excellent cuisine and 13 individual rooms. In summer the castle park, heated swimming pool and tennis court invite you to relax.
