Karen's Review Of This Property:
The heart of Pirna (a pedestrian-only zone) is a charming medieval town with cobbled streets, colorful houses, and historic buildings—plus, a superb location. You can stay in Pirna and take the train into Dresden for a day of sightseeing or take a boat to explore one of our favorite areas in East Germany, the fascinating Swiss Saxony (Sächsische Schweiz). The Romantik Hotel Deutsches Haus, adjacent to the beautiful St. Marien church, occupies three Renaissance houses, one painted pink, another off-white, and the other yellow. Over the doorway is a crest of the famous stone mason, Wolf Blechschmidt, who lived in the house in the 16th century, and not only designed his own home, but was also responsible for the architectural design of the church across the street and many houses in town. Not a pretentious hotel, the Deutsches Haus is a homey place to stay with great hospitality, historic ambiance, wonderful restaurant, inviting garden courtyard, wellness center, and nice accommodations (some guestrooms are decorated with Biedermeier furnishings). The owner, Herr Riedel, (born here when his parents had a restaurant with a few rooms) took possession of the property which was derelict after the Russian occupation. With great devotion to its rich heritage, he lovingly transformed it into a first-class hotel.
