Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Auf Schönburg is the perfect castle hotel. High atop a rocky bluff, the façade is a fairy-tale picture of towers and battlements reached by crossing a narrow, wooden bridge. Cobbles worn smooth by feet through the ages wind through the castle to the summit. The terrace view is superb, dropping steeply to the Rhine below. The bedrooms are shaped by the unusual castle buildings—tower rooms sit atop steep winding staircases and several rooms have balconies (one leads to a long drop). Through tiny lead-paned windows you catch glimpses of the Rhine or vineyards far below. While several rooms have views to the Rhine, you are assured a quieter night’s sleep if you have a vineyard view. Be aware that you will hear the trains rushing along beside the river unless you have a vineyard view room. Guestrooms do vary in size and are located down a maze of corridors and up and down winding turret squares. The most spectacular rooms are the beautiful, spacious rooms enjoying window seats, balconies, and river views; but even those more intimate in size have their own special appeal and some even have hidden rooms. The romance extends to the lovely dining rooms where you dine by candlelight. The Ritterstube restaurant has lovely views to the vineyards while the newly renovated dining room has medieval charm.
