Altes Zollhaus
A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn

Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Altes Zollhaus sits at the river’s edge in one of the Mosel’s most charming villages at the foot of the region’s vineyards. A soft-yellow-wash building with rust-colored timbers and a slate roof topping its third-floor dormer windows—the entrance is through its dining room. Before inquiring about a room, consider a meal as the food is quite good, well presented, and reasonable. The best accompanying wines are those of the proprietor himself. The eight guestrooms, with simple stenciling decorating whitewashed walls, are found up a basic staircase. The comfortable beds are topped with down comforters and rooms benefit from views of the Mosel. Although there is a real charm to the Zollhaus, which dates from 1634, if you prefer absolute quiet to the waterfront setting, ask Madame about their additional accommodation offered at Hotel Lipmann am Klosterberg, 150 meters up the hill. This newly constructed, attractive timbered inn has sixteen bedrooms, most enjoying the expanse of front deck, while two rooms back onto the hillside. Guestrooms at the Hotel Lipmann am Klosterberg are a little larger than those at the Altes Zollhaus and the bathrooms are new and modern. Guests at Hotel Lipmann am Klosterberg have the use of the house’s own breakfast and sitting rooms.
