Karen's Review Of This Property:
The lush Ruhr region is beautiful. Especially appealing is the landscape around Kettwig. Here, far from the smokestacks of the industrial area, you find the Schloss Hugenpoet, an imposing fortress surrounded by a water-filled moat where large carp swim lazily. There has been a fortification on this site for over one thousand years, and during violent periods of history several castles on the site were destroyed. The present structure has existed since 1650. The interior, rich in tradition, presents a castle in tiptop condition. An impressive black-marble staircase dominates the lobby; a grouping of fine furniture stands in front of the huge carved fireplace, while the surrounding walls host a picture gallery of fine oil paintings. This is a grand castle where the bedchambers were given spacious proportions. Many are furnished with authentic 17th-century furniture. Downstairs, the dining rooms, baronial in size, are each dominated by a grand carved fireplace. Boasting famous chefs and an incredible wine list, the hotel offers two restaurants, the “Nesselrode” with light cusine and the “Hugenpöttchen” which serves creative country style cuisine. Drinks may be enjoyed in the “Baronie” bar.
