Karen's Review Of This Property:
The little towns along the River Main, upstream from Würzburg, produce some of Germany’s most delightful, dry, white wines. One of the most picturesque towns is Volkach with its medieval walls, colorful town hall, and pretty houses. Almost opposite the town hall on the town’s main street, you find the exceptionally charming, 600-year-old Zur Schwane, an inn and winery. Relax in its sheltered, cobbled courtyard and sample their wines and then enjoy dinner in one of the cozy, adorable restaurants with their old-fashioned tables and chairs set beneath low, paneled ceilings. The inn has been extended to the rear and some delightful bedrooms are found in this new wing, which has half-paneled walls and ceilings and wood furniture to replicate the mood of the restaurants. Some of the guestrooms exude a quiet elegance with light wood paneling enhanced by pretty pastel-colored fabrics. An apartment has a sitting room with ceramic stove, tables, and chairs, and a spacious bedroom. The Pfaff family produce their own wine and are happy to take those with an interest in wine production on a tour of their vast cellars. Eva Pfaff-Düker is a winetaster and can arrange for a tasting in the ancient barrel-vaulted cellar filled with oak wine casks (a special cask was made to celebrate the birth of her son Julius in 1992).
Romantik Hotel Guide's Description:
The swan glistens gold in the evening sunshine against the clear blue sky. Come inside! We have been providing hospitality for over 600 years and view the combination of tradition and innovation as a challenge rather than a contradiction. Whether in the old Wirtstube bar or in the vine-clad inner courtyard, we tempt guests with our contemporary Franconian cuisine. Wines from the family's own VDP vineyard offer an outstanding complement to this taste experience. In our refined and authentic rooms you'll find peace and quiet and wake up refreshed to face the new day.
