Karen's Review Of This Property:
Most of the hotels in Oberammergau are irresistible outside, with intricately painted façades and windowboxes overflowing with brightly colored geraniums; but unfortunately, inside most of the cozy ambiance usually evaporates. An exception is the Hotel Turmwirt, where from the moment you enter, a rustic mood is established by the use of pine paneling, antique trunks, Oriental carpets, colorful draperies, and carefully selected fabrics on comfortable chairs. There are two dining rooms, both very attractive. Especially cozy is one with 200-year-old paneled ceiling and walls. In 1998 the restaurant was voted one of the 20 restaurants offering best value for money in Germany. The Glas family has owned and operated the Hotel Turmwirt for over 60 years. Georg Glas now manages the hotel, and the mouth-watering display of cakes and marvelous pastries are baked following his mother’s traditional recipes. Some of the guestrooms are located in the original house, others in a newer wing, and all have been newly renovated. Bedrooms have built-in beds and modern, Danish-style chairs. The rooms with the best views are those in the new wing, with balconies looking out to the mountains, but I think that my favorite is number 11, a front-facing room, which has lovely, hand-painted, Bavarian-style furniture dating back to the turn of the last century.
