Karen's Review Of This Property:

It is difficult to pinpoint the best feature of the Gasthof Hecht because you must choose between its country charm; wonderfully gracious, friendly hosts; and extremely reasonable rates. The 300-year-old gasthof is located on the picturesque pedestrian main street of Wolfach, where its half-timbered façade, overflowing with geraniums, has long been a welcome sight for travelers. The ground floor contains two dining rooms with pewter and pottery collections, beamed ceilings, wood-paneled walls, and fresh flower bouquets. When I was visiting, a friendly neighborhood gathering occupied the tables and chairs that spill over into the cobblestoned street. Leave your diet at home, as traditional, home-style meals are served here, including pork and veal dishes, plenty of vegetables, and mouthwatering tortes for dessert. Eberhard Sattler is responsible for the kitchen, and he studied and apprenticed elsewhere before returning with his charming family to home base. Renate, your lovely, gracious hostess, has redecorated all the guestrooms beautifully in an ultra-modern style. I love the traditional and old, yet the clean lines and modern fixtures and appointments of the guestrooms are attractive and luxurious in comfort.

Directions: 57 km northeast of Freiburg. Take the N294 48 km north from Freiburg to where it jogs east at Haslach. Drive 8 km to Hausach and then 4 km on the N294 to Wolfach. The hotel is at the heart of this small town.
