Karen's Review Of This Property:
The main claim to fame of the Hotel Alte Post is its location in the very heart of Wangen, one of Germany’s colorful medieval villages. The Alte Post was built in 1409 as a posting station and is now one of the oldest hotels in Germany. In days gone by horses were stabled below the existing building and exchanged to cover the next postal journey. You can easily spot the hotel (a boxy, three-story building with small gabled windows peeking out from a steeply pitched gray roof) as it sits in the center of town, opening onto a cobblestoned, pedestrian-only square. Rooms on the first level are devoted to the hotel’s restaurants. As in many German hotels, the dining rooms have more personality than the guestrooms whose decor varies from comfortable contemporary to traditional. From the third-floor guestrooms (tucked under beamed ceilings) you can hear the peal of the nearby church bells.
Romantik Hotel Guide's Description:
Wangen is a quaint medieval city and known as "the gate to the Allgäuer Alps". From here you can discover the magnificent landscape of southern Germany, Lake Constance and the Upper Swabian Baroque Road with its architectural beauties. You will find cosy accomodation in the Romantik Hotel Alte Post, which enjoys a quiet yet central location in the pedestrian zone of the old town.
