Karen's Review Of This Property:
As we drove through the glorious countryside of Provence with fields of grapes on both sides of the road stretching into the distance, we came upon the Domaine de la Ponche. At first sight, our hearts were won completely and we were relieved to discover this jewel of a hotel is as lovely inside as it is out. Dating back to 1629, the house still retains many of its early features, including one of its original round chubby towers with peaked roof. The mansion had been abandoned for many years and was in total disrepair when purchased by your gracious hosts, Madeleine Frauenknecht, Ruth Spahn, and Jean-Pierre Onimus. Together they have done a superb job in the restoration. The exterior of the manor is pastel cream with a blush of pink, given a fairy-tale look by pretty blue shutters and a lacing of ivy. Tall cypress trees frame the property, which includes a small vineyard and a beautifully tended garden where the swimming pool nestles. Next to the house, so close to the vineyards that you feel you could reach out and touch the grapes, intimate dining tables are set under a romantic, wisteria-draped trellis. Inside, the house has been decorated in a tasteful, understated style. There is nothing fussy or trendy, just large, uncluttered rooms accented by some magnificent antiques and lovely fabrics.
