Karen's Review Of This Property:
One of our favorite destinations in France has drawn one of the country’s finest chefs, Alain Ducasse, to offer fine dining matched with fine accommodation. Just outside the pilgrimage village of Moustiers, the 17th-century La Bastide is set in extensive grounds boasting a lovely pool and pasture of grazing horses. Twelve rooms, five of which are situated in three cottages on the estate, enable even more guests to enjoy the wonderful experience of La Bastide. It is truly hard to select a favorite—Chambre Blanche is feminine and very European with its four-poster bed set across from two large windows and a painting of a lady in a peignoir, Chambre Coquelicot is cheerful in a decor of red provincial prints, and Suite Olive is rich and inviting in a warm color scheme of creams, yellows, and olive. In addition to the accommodation and the renowned cuisine, guests can have an insight into the evening menu by accompanying chef Wilfrid Hocquet to the local markets. Just off the first-floor landing, whose wall niches display an array of antique cooking implements, is a maze of rooms set for dinner. From a room reminiscent of a library to a cozy little romantic alcove, the selection is both attractive and varied, and the food guaranteed to please. Dinner is also served in the garden on balmy evenings.
