Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Château de Montreuil, across from the Roman Citadel in the charming fortified town of Montreuil, is beautiful with soft-yellow walls accented by turquoise green shutters and topped by a red-tiled roof. Set behind its own wisteria-hung wall within the town, the château has meticulous grounds and gardens. The reception area is intimate and cozy with beautiful old beams and leads to a lovely bar area. The dining room is very elegant, with cream linen and crystal set against a backdrop of soft gray and blue, handsome copper pieces, and silk flower arrangements giving splashes of color. Off the dining room of the gourmet restaurant, a glassed-in salon overlooking the gardens opens onto a terrace where breakfast is offered in warm weather. In the main château, first-floor rooms are more traditional in decor, with beams and old parquet and tile floors. Favorites are number 1 with a lovely old wood canopy, weathered brick floors, a large bathroom under a dramatic copper ceiling, and views of the front grounds, and number 3 overlooking the back garden, a lovely corner room with old wood paneling, twin beds, and a separate sleeping alcove off the bathroom. Second-floor rooms are refurbished, but retain an “old” atmosphere. There are three exceptionally lovely cottages and one superior room that share a courtyard behind the enclosed walls.
