Karen's Review Of This Property:

Perched above the flowing River Dordogne and backed by formal French gardens and acres of parkland, the Château de la Treyne has been renovated and returned to its earlier state of grandeur. A fairy-tale fortress, the château will enchant you with its presence, its grace, its regal accommodation, and excellent restaurant. Inside, heavy wood doors, wood paneling, and beams contrast handsomely with white stone walls and the rich, muted colors of age-worn tapestries. Public rooms are furnished dramatically with antiques and warmed by log-burning fires. The resident dog usually lounges lazily in front of one of those crackling fires, adding a touch of homeyness to this elegant ambiance. In summer, tables are set on a terrace with magnificent views that plunge down to the Dordogne. On brisk nights a fire is lit in the beautiful Louis XIII dining room, the tables are set elegantly with silver, china, and crystal, and a pianist plays the grand piano softly. Up the broad stone staircase the château’s bedrooms are all luxuriously appointed and furnished. Individual in their decor, size, and location, the bedrooms have windows opening onto either dramatic river views or the lovely grounds. If the Château de la Treyne is full, ask about its sister château hotel just 10 minutes away.
