Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Romantik Hotel Le Manoir au Lac, nestled on a hillside overlooking Lake Gérardmer, has been a popular resort since the late 1800s when many Parisians came and built mansions here. Most are now gone, but one beautiful property that belonged to a wealthy banker survived. In 1979 Claude Valentine (who was born nearby) purchased the manor and masterfully converted it into a sumptuous, boutique-style hotel. From the moment you enter, you are surrounded by the intimacy, refinement, and charm of a private home. Every detail is superb; every fabric and piece of furniture lovingly selected. It is no surprise that the décor is so outstanding since the owner, Claude Valentine, is a renowned designer and the hotel is his showpiece. Excellent meals are served in the splendid dining room which has a vast expanse of windows capturing a view of the lake. On sunny days, most guests choose to dine outside on a spacious terrace. Each guestroom has unique furnishings, radiates quality, as is masterfully decorated. Although opulent, nothing is ostentatious, yet the experienced eye will notice such details as bathroom tiles signed by Villeroy & Boch, fabrics by Toiles de Mayenne, linens by Porthault, china by Raynaud, and crystal by Baccarat. Obviously no expense was spared to create this luxury hideaway. Additional amenities include an inside pool and sauna.
