Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Hôtel Anne d’Anjou is located within walking distance of this colorful town’s historic center and of the 14th-century château perched high on the hill. Originally built in the 18th century as a private mansion, the building still displays many vestiges of its glorious past. One of the most dramatic of these is a handsome wrought-iron staircase forming a gallery at each level and crowned above by a trompe l’oeil ceiling—designated historic monuments. The hotel is owned by Jean-René and Mary Lyn Camus, who run it with grace and professionalism, aiming to create an environment where guests feel welcome and at home. When they bought the property it had already been converted into a hotel, but since then they have made many improvements, including upgrading the decor and adding tiled bathrooms. The five guestrooms on the first floor upstairs have retained their original Louis XVI furnishings. The other bedrooms have new furniture and decor, but still reflect the Empire style. Although the interior is very inviting, my favorite spot is the delightful inner courtyard, a magical place for a drink in the evening when you have a splendid view of the château glowing in the rays of the setting sun. At the end of the courtyard there is an adorable, tiny, 16th-century wine merchant’s cellar, which has been converted to a wonderful restaurant, Les Ménestrels.
