Karen's Review Of This Property:
After spending the day visiting the elegant châteaux of the Loire Valley, there is nothing more inviting than retiring to your own château in the evening, and we have yet to find a château-hotel that we enjoy more than Domaine des Hauts de Loire. Built as a grand hunting lodge in the 19th century for the Count de Rostaing, the ivy-covered château is framed by tall trees and reflected in a tranquil lake where swans glide lazily by. To complete the attractive picture are acres of woodland with inviting forest paths, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. The beautiful salon sets a mood of quiet elegance and it is here that guests gather for drinks and peruse the tempting dinner menu. The restaurant is gorgeous, with soft-pastel linens, silver candlesticks, china, and silver dressing every table. During our stay we were very impressed by the professional, friendly staff and attentions of Madame and Monsieur Bonnigal. Whether you secure a room in the château (what was once the library is exquisite in its furnishing with a gorgeous fireplace and tapestry) or the adjacent timbered wing (although, termed a standard room, 20 is lovely with its own private terrace), each luxurious room accompanied by a spacious modern bathroom is delightful. Reader feedback only reaffirms the superlatives we lavish on this magnificent château.
