Karen's Review Of This Property:
Noizay is a quiet town on the north side of the River Loire to the west of Amboise. The Château de Noizay, a lovely hotel tucked into the hillside, played a role in a turbulent period of French history. It was here in 1560 that Castelnau was held prisoner by the Duc de Nemours after a bloody assault in the town. Castelnau was then taken to Amboise where heads were guillotined and then speared and displayed on the balcony of that château. It was the massacre that marked the defeat of the Calvinists. The Château de Noizay entered a new era as a luxury hotel. Fourteen rooms, at the top of the grand central stairway, have been decorated with attractive fabrics and period furniture and each is accompanied by a modern bathroom. From the smallest third-floor rooms tucked under the eaves looking out through small circular windows, to the more dramatic and spacious second-floor bedchambers, accommodations are commodious and quiet. Off the entry, an elegant dining room whose soft neutral colors compliment the handsome drapes that dress the windows, promises gastronomic cuisine and the wine selection comes from an impressive cellar. Five luxurious rooms (air-conditioned) are found in the adjacent building, the Clock House. The grounds of the château include a lovely forested park, formal garden, pool, and tennis courts.
