Karen's Review Of This Property:
The River Dordogne makes a panoramic journey through a rich valley studded with castles. The ancient village of Domme has for centuries stood guard high above the river and commands a magnificent panorama. The town itself is enchanting, with ramparts dating from the 13th century and narrow streets that wind through its old quarter and past a lovely 14th-century Hôtel de Ville. Visitors come to Domme for its spectacular views of the Dordogne river valley and the best vantage point is from the shaded terrace of the Hôtel de l’Esplanade, located on the outside edge of the village. Staying at this hotel enables you to savor the village long after the tour buses have departed. The Gillards extend a warm and friendly greeting and René Gillard is both your host and chef—in either of the two dining rooms, charmingly country in their decor, he’ll suggest some excellent regional specialties. Bedrooms in the main building of the hotel are found down narrow, ornately decorated hallways, and a few open onto unobstructed, million-dollar views of the Dordogne. Other guestrooms of the hotel are found in annexes down cobbled streets in neighboring buildings in the village. Most annex accommodations are housed behind old stone walls and, although attractively decorated and comfortable, are not luxurious.
