Down a private drive, Manoir d'Hautegente idyllically sits beneath shady trees in a garden bounded by stone walls, colorful flowers, and a rushing stream. The original core of this ivy-covered manor house was a forge for the local abbey and dates from the 13th century. The forge later became a mill and other sections were added with the distinctive arched windows and doors. The Hamelin family has lived here for over 300 years and the present generation is in place, as Patrick and his charming wife and adorable children, Batiste and Juliette have settled in and oversee the professional service and incredible welcome. The family also operates a second business, Conserves Artisanales, the production and sales of many regional gourmet offerings. In the evenings Patrick and Marie Josée are in the dining room to discuss the different menu choices prepared by Chef Ludovic. Family antiques decorate the salons, halls, and bedrooms, including the tallest of grandfather clocks on the landing. With their high ceilings, fabric-covered walls, and coordinating drapes and bedspreads, the bedrooms vary greatly in size, but all enjoy river views. Bounded by a cornfield, the heated swimming pool is a perfect retreat on warm summer days.
