Tucked 10 kilometers farther up a quiet valley from the larger town of Brantôme, Bourdeilles has an idyllic setting. In this old village crowned by a castle, the Hostellerie des Griffons sits next to a narrow bridge and offers accommodation in a tranquil, picture-book setting. The outside shutters are a pretty purple and the new courtyard and beautiful garden terrace located between the river and the castle are quite attractive. This is a charming inn in an enchanting setting and it is nice to be able to recommend it unconditionally. Guaranteeing a peaceful night’s sleep, many of the bedrooms nestle under old beams and overlook the quietly flowing river. I have many personal favorites: number 9 is a charming corner room set under romantic beams and eaves, number 6 is tucked under the angled beams and looks across to the mill, and number 4 is pretty in its decor of purple and enjoys the water view. The restaurant is intimate and inviting, with windows opening up to the soothing sound of cascading water. Tables are set on the lovely garden terrace on warm summer nights. The outdoor setting, between castle and river, is romantic and perfect for enjoying wonderful Périgord specialties. This is a delightful inn and a good value on the northern boundaries of the Dordogne.
