The Hotel Les Violettes, located on the Alsace Wine Route in the idyllic hamlet of Jungholtz, is a treasure. It nestles on a gentle hillside overlooking woodlands and the onion dome of a picturesque Basilica. The stone house with its steeply pitched roof, jaunty gables, rows of windows framed by green shutters, and window boxes with red geraniums resembles a country manor. You step inside to a positively charming interior that exudes a home-like ambiance, blending tasteful elegance with rustic charm. Wonderful meals are served in a particularly appealing dining room decorated with country flair. Upstairs are nine, individually decorated guestrooms, each outstanding. Room 2 is especially cozy with beamed-ceiling, dark wood paneling, Oriental carpet, gleaming hardwood floors, and a romantic rose theme. An adjacent annex provides 13 more guestrooms. These are also excellent, but simpler in decor (and less expensive) than those in the main house. The Hotel Les Violettes is the creation of your remarkable host, Philippe Bosc, who grew up nearby. Since the time he was a little boy and walked on Sundays with his grandmother to enjoy lunch at Les Violettes, he dreamed of someday owning the hotel. Like in a fairytale, he grew up, became extraordinarily successful, returned to Jungholtz, purchased the property, and created Les Violettes—a fabulous boutique hotel.
