Minerve Hôtel
A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn
Hôtelier: Eric Gaucheron |
Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Gaucheron family proudly offers accommodation in two neighboring hotels: the Minerve and the Familia. Gregarious Eric is often present and by example sets a high standard of service for his incredible team, while his parents are often there behind the scenes overseeing details. The Minerve’s rooms are a little larger than their sister property, the Familia’s (recommended in our Bed & Breakfast guide) but also feature exposed beams and stone walls wherever possible. Eric’s fondness for tapestries, Persian rugs and original frescoes is evident in both properties. The hotel enjoys a lovely large entry and sitting room distinguished by an attractive mural, lovely Persian rugs on the marble floor, antiques, grandfather clocks, and the view of a back central garden. Descend the circular stair to a handsome breakfast room embraced by the old stone walls. Guestrooms are found on each of the six floors from the handicapped-accessible rooms on the first floor to the cozy top-floor rooms under angled ceilings with lovely glimpses across to the spires of Nôtre Dame. I especially liked rooms 507, 304, and 307, all cozy in size but enjoying two balconies draped with geraniums, and 303, a quiet back room overlooking the interior courtyard, lovely in colors of blues and golds and with a beautiful hand-painted fresco of Chartres Cathedral. The Minerve is recommended as a simple hotel with an excellent location on the Left Bank, and an extremely good value.
