Hôtel du Jeu de Paume
A Karen Brown Recommended Hotel / Inn
Hôtelier: Elyane Prache |
Karen's Review Of This Property:
To find the Hôtel du Jeu de Paume it is easier to locate the imposing woody door than the small identifying brass plaque. Behind the large door, a long outdoor corridor with stone-tiled floor and heavy wooden timbers buffers the hotel from any street noise. Inside, the Jeu de Paume is an architectural wonder whose walls and vaulted ceilings are striped with beams. Dramatic in its furnishing, the decor is an artistic blend of tapestries, chrome, glass, and leather set against a backdrop of wood and plaster. The core of the hotel, converted from a 17th-century Jeu de Paume, is one large room divided up into a series of rooms: the entry, the living room warmed by a lovely fire, and the dining room whose tables are overpowered by the stunning end beams and soaring rafters. Be sure to take note of the large painting over the bureau whose canvas is reminiscent of the times of Louis XIII. The majority of guestrooms open onto the central room and overlook the patio and garden. A few rooms are located in a side annex. Two of the rooms in the side annex are termed junior suites and have the luxury of two bathrooms and room number 7 enjoys a private terrace.
