Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Altstadt residential hotel is imbued with a warmth of hospitality and homelike atmosphere rarely found in a commercial establishment. This is not happenstance, but a planned, well-thought-out intent by Otto Wiesenthal. He rightfully boasts, and I endorse his claim, that he truly has the best staff in the city—they are attentive, caring and anticipate guests’ needs. Before opening his hotel in 1991, Mr. Wiesenthal was in the computer business where experiences in impersonal hotels inspired him to create an “ideal” inn where guests are welcomed as friends. Located outside the Inner Ring, the hotel is a 20-minute walk to the heart of Vienna’s sightseeing. The hotel’s discreet entrance is marked by a red awning and flanked by two potted trees. A staircase leads up one level to the reception area. The gracious hostess who checks you in also serves as a concierge who gladly assists guests with their stay. On the same floor there is a cozy lounge with an open fireplace and an appealing breakfast room where complimentary tea and cake are also served in the afternoon. The bedrooms are all attractive and decorated with good taste. Original artwork adorns the walls and the suites are exceptional in terms of size and amenity and are truly the best value in Vienna. Many of the furnishings have a Biedermeier flair with just a touch of art deco thrown in for accent. A favorite is the “Boesendorfer Suite” with a grand piano, fireplace, and a lovely view over a roof garden.
