Karen's Review Of This Property:
This lovely hotel is precariously suspended on a mountain ledge overlooking a scenic bend in the wide sweep of the River Donau–seemingly on top of the world. To stay here is to enjoy the magnificence of the setting as well as the hospitality of the family who both own the hotel and offer the gracious welcome. Simone, Maximilian and their daughter, who is the restaurant’s very accomplished sommelier, carry on the tradition of welcome as established by their forfathers. The Landhotel Falkner was originally the hunting lodge to the neighboring medieval schloss. Today, rather than the hunt, guests appreciate the convenience of a hotel when traveling between Germany and Austria and an incredible view. The Landhotel Falkner has just twelve guestrooms to offer overnight guests and they vary in size from a standard single room to a comfortable double. Be sure to ask for a room with a river view as the view is the incentive for the stay. Of rooms toured, my favorite was a small corner end room, #13 that enjoyed its own small terrace and view over the castle. In terms of public areas, one could easily settle on the outdoor terrace and enjoy the incredible views. In cooler weather, the library salon is also a very charming place to settle. For dinner, one can dine on the terrace or indroors at Austrian style booths that hug the windows and frame the river views. A coffee or drink is much enjoyed at wicker chairs in the sheltered winter garden.
