Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Romantik Hotel Gmachl has been in the Gmachl family since 1583—Friedrich and Michaela Hirnböck-Gmachl, the present owners, are the 22nd generation. The building is full of character: it was constructed in 1334 as a tavern for the Benedictine monks of the Monastery of Nonnberg, so it is even older than the beautiful small onion-domed church to the right of the hotel, which also belongs to the Gmachl family. (Step next door to see the exquisite church and its graveyard where generations of the family are buried.) There have always been a farm and a butchery connected to the property and the tradition lives on with a family-owned, picture-perfect, small sausage shop on the left side of the hotel. The exterior of the hotel is most inviting: a soft, mustard-yellow façade with white-painted trim, flowerboxes at the windows, and a steeply pitched roof. Inside, a mood of elegant yet rustic charm prevails. There is a series of inviting lounges and intimate dining rooms. Family portraits, photographs, and memorabilia are everywhere, along with fresh bouquets of flowers and fine antiques. Some of the guestrooms are in the main building, others in a lovely old house across the street. All the bedrooms are beautifully decorated with a country ambiance and great flair. The Hotel Gmachl is located a convenient 15 minutes’ bus ride away from downtown Salzburg.
Romantik Hotel Guide's Description:

This jewel dates back to 1334 and lies in lush green surroundings only 8 minutes from the old town centre of Salzburg. Rooms with aesthetic interiors and elegant studios create an atmosphere to feel good. The exclusive Spa & Beauty centre provides relaxation during their stay.
