Karen's Review Of This Property:

In addition to being a lovely medieval village along the Danube, Dürnstein is also famous because England’s King Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned in the castle on the hill above the town. The castle is now in ruins, but the romantic story of how the King was rescued by his faithful minstrel, Blondel, still lingers on. Named in memory of this famous king, the hotel was once a monastery, and like so many old church properties it occupies the “choice” spot in town. Its ancient monastic walls are still standing. Today they enclose one of the nicest features of the hotel: a lovely, heated swimming pool and the beautiful cloister gardens. The hotel sits on the banks of the Danube, which means many spectacular views for the visitor. To capture the beauty, there is a terrace which stretches to the side of the hotel—a favorite place for guests to sit and sample some of the local wine and watch the boat traffic on the river. In addition to the outdoor dining area, the Danube Terrace, there is an enclosed small adjacent restaurant, plus another large one within the main building. Having been awarded the prestigious Gault Millau toque, the menu here is superlative, and complemented by the excellence of service. Antique furnishings adorn many of the public rooms. The ambiance is one of a dignified hunting lodge, with heavy furniture, and trophies on the walls. The bedrooms are pleasantly spacious, modern in their décor, and comfortably appointed.

Romantik Hotel Guide's Description:

The middle-age structure of a cloister from the order of St. Clare and the wonderful location give this 4-star house its unique character. In the terrace restaurant perched over the Danube you can enjoy the excellent cuisine, which was awarded a "toque" Gault Millau, and first class service. In the spacious, dreamy cloister gardens with a large swimming pool you will find rest and relaxation.
