Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Schloss Leonstain, a beautiful castle hotel, is located on the busy main street of the small lake resort of Pörtschach. However, once you enter into the spacious property, you are insulated from the hustle and bustle of the town. The park-like grounds are lovely: not only is this old castle surrounded by lawns, but flower gardens are also tucked into the small courtyards where large trees, walkways, and ivory-colored walls please the eye. In summer, chamber-music concerts are frequently given in one of the courtyards. The reception area is light and airy with beautiful antiques. The dining room is also very attractive, with vaulted ceilings, Oriental carpets, and high-backed upholstered chairs. Most important, the food is rated among the best in Austria. The guestrooms have been refurbished and are charming. One of my favorites, the Johannes Brahms room (where Brahms supposedly stayed), is romantically furnished in antiques. Schloss Leonstain is across the street from the lake and has its own private lakeside park where towels, lockers, lounge chairs, and small boats are available for the use of guests, along with a small restaurant. From the hotel it is also an easy walk to the pier where you can board one of the ferries that circle the lake.
