Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Hotel Monte Rosa is a must when evaluating the hotels of Zermatt. How could you possibly not consider the original hotel in Zermatt, one that is so intricately interwoven with the history of this wonderful old village? The members of the Seiler family who own the Monte Rosa are descendants of Alexander Seiler who waved goodbye on July 13, 1865, to the famous Englishman, Edward Whymper, as he began his historic climb to become the first man to conquer the Matterhorn. Back in the 1800s, when Edward Whymper was asked about the best hotel in Zermatt, he always replied, “Go to the Monte Rosa—go to Seiler’s”. The answer has not changed over the past century. There are now several Seiler hotels on the hotel scene, but it is still the Monte Rosa that best captures the nostalgia of the old Zermatt. It is not just the romance that makes this inn so special—it also has delightful old-world lounges, such as the pine-paneled Whymper Room and the traditional billiard room. The charming guestrooms are all tastefully decorated in an old-world style. Each bedroom is lovely in its own way, with fine furnishings accented by pretty, color-coordinated fabrics. The service is refined and reflects the best in Swiss tradition and hospitality. Guests loyally return year after year to experience this exceptional hotel.
Swiss Historic Hotel's Description:
The original Seiler Hotel is erected on the foundations of the legendary "Lauber Inn", which established Zermatt’s hotel keeping in 1839. In 1855 Alexander Seiler opened the Hotel Monte Rosa here, in the centre of the village. Since over one and a half centuries the most traditional hotel of Zermatt accommodates visitors from around the world. The membership with "The Leading Small Hotels of the World" vouches for the high quality of services. Experience the charm of the alpine "Belle-Époque" hotel and at the same time enjoy the comforts of a modern infrastructure.
