The Romantik Hotel Castello enjoys an imposing position at one end of Ascona’s lakeside promenade. This 13th-century castle has been extended over the years but still keeps its fortress look with thick walls and stone stairways. Guestrooms with handsome wood doors are decorated with a mix of modern and traditional furnishings. All guestooms are nonsmoking. The most impressive room is the tower room with its thick walls, high ceilings, and incredible frescoes. Guests who elect to stay on a demi-pension basis are offered an enticing menu served in a special dining room just for hotel guests. An à-la-carte restaurant, the Locanda de’Ghiriglioni, is also available for guests not opting for demi-pension and for non-residents. Tucked in the cellar, an attractive wine bar is a cozy place to enjoy a drink. Behind the castle is a secluded swimming pool and two wings of more contemporary bedrooms. Just across the road is an appealing, tree-shaded, lakeside garden where guests can relax while watching the colorful parade of people strolling along the promenade.
