Hotel Victoria

Perched high in the hills above Montreux, the Hotel Victoria (a member of the Relais & Châteaux group) is a handsome hotel with a mansard roof. From the hotel, the pool, and the perfectly manicured gardens terraced below, there is a truly breathtaking panorama of Lake Geneva backed by jagged mountain peaks. From the moment you walk inside this beautiful inn, there is an old-world ambiance enhanced by handsome antique furniture. There are many niches in the various lounges where guests can relax—one of my favorites is the cheerful, bright, garden “sun room”—a delightful spot to enjoy a good book or afternoon tea. The bar area is inviting, with dark paneling enhanced by old paintings. There are two elegantly decorated dining rooms serving superb meals. The owner, Mr Mittermair, mingles throughout the dining room at dinner to make sure that his guests are well cared for. The guestrooms have been completely renovated and glamorous new suites added, with views so spectacular that you will never want to leave your room. Although this is a grand hotel, it is run with such warmth and fine management, you will feel like a guest in a private home. Compared to what you would pay to stay at a hotel in Geneva, the Victoria is a great value.
