Romantik Hotel Säntis

The façade of the Romantik Hotel Säntis, located on the central square in the picturesque village of Appenzell, has been gaily painted a rust-red with yellow and black scrolling. The terrace in front is a favorite place for a cool drink on a warm day. Guestrooms are decorated either in attractive modern or reproduction country-style wooden furniture. The price for the room depends mostly upon its size. My favorite guestrooms are in the original part of the main house, although those in the newer wing are also very pleasant. The decor of each bedroom in the new wing is the same except for the color scheme. The public rooms seem geared to the influx of tourists who drop in for a midday meal, and the lobby offers a country welcome; however, the hotel has wisely insulated a quiet, peaceful lounge just for guests. A wing opened in 1997 houses a sauna, wellness bar, seminar center, and five additional large bedrooms. The gracious Stefan and his delightful Scottish wife, Catriona, are the fourth generation of the Heeb family to run the hotel. The family’s pride and dedication as owners are very apparent, from the friendliness of the front-desk receptionist to the smile of the chambermaid.

Appenzeller hospitality is nurtured and preserved in the Romantik Hotel Säntis. Its grand facade faces onto the "Landsgemeindeplatz" and offers a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. The Heeb family pampers their guests when they return to the cosy hotel from hikes, excursions, and winter ski tours.
