Hotel Stern and Post Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

On my first visit to the Hotel Stern and Post my heart was won by Faro, an enormous Bernese farm dog napping in the middle of the lobby. Faro was such a fixture that postcards of this gentle “puppy” were sent to his many admirers. Unfortunately Faro has died, but Duke, an equally lovable Bernese farm dog is now winning the hearts of guests. The Stern and Post has been in the Tresch family for several hundred years. Elisabeth Tresch, who graduated from Cornell University Hotel School in New York, oversees the hotel with an unparalleled professionalism and warmly welcomes guests from all over the world. Her family heirlooms adorn the cozy, antique-adorned public areas and a wonderful story can be told about each—ask about the veterinary cabinet or the lock-up cabinet for the hotel silver, necessary in days of old when the employees were not to be trusted. Right on the main thoroughfare of Amsteg, the oldest part of the house dates back to 1789 when the inn was built to provide shelter to weary travelers. Today the Stern and Post is the only remaining coaching station along the Saint Gotthard Pass road. About a third of the simple guestrooms have antique furnishings, others have a modern decor. Ask for one of the bedrooms in the back overlooking the gushing stream.

Swiss Historic Hotel's Description:

Great History in a small place. Besides providing the utmost comfort by modern standards, the hotel “Stern & Post” offers a glimpse of times long past. The historically significant building, as well as the ****-rooms, suites and restaurant bring long forgotten times back to life. A large part of the interior décor, furniture and paintings date back to the 18th and 19th century and have been restored elaborately. Enjoy our hospitality amidst an exceptional mountainous landscape. The hotel “Stern & Post” provides a unique atmosphere for such an experience.
