Waldhotel Doldenhorn

The Waldhotel Doldenhorn is beautifully positioned at the end of the Kandersteg Valley, with the wooded mountains rising precipitously behind the hotel. There are two sections to the hotel, the main building and an adjacent chalet (where the guestrooms are less expensive). Registration is in the main hotel. Steps lead up to a reception area opening onto an attractively decorated lounge with dark paneling, handsome striped fabric on high-backed chairs, and intimate groupings of leather chairs. Beyond the lounge is the Grüner Saal, an elegant, rather formal, dining room with green-striped draperies framing large windows, silver chandeliers, and tables properly set with pretty linens and fresh flowers. The Restaurant Burestube is a wood-paneled dining room with rustic wooden chairs and milk-glass lamps hanging from the decoratively paneled wood ceiling. Each of the bedrooms is individually decorated, many with lovely antiques. One of the more expensive but especially lovely rooms is 109, a spacious bedroom with beautiful antique furniture and a pretty view. Anne and René Maeder also own the Landgasthof Ruedihus across the road. The Ruedihus exudes a rustic ambiance, while the Doldenhorn displays a more formal charm. The hotel also has a wellness center with fitness room, three saunas, whirlpool, indoor pool, beauty treatments and solarium.
