Hotel Chalet Swiss

The Hotel Chalet Swiss is appropriately named— it looks like a charming small chalet one would find nestled in a green meadow rather than a hotel on the outskirts of bustling Interlaken. The façade of the hotel is a wonderful weathered brown wood, a steep-pitched shingle roof, and window boxes of red geraniums. In summer the front yard features a manicured rose garden. Although it looks small, the hotel has 54 guestrooms. Most are in a new annex behind the hotel, pleasant but in the motel style of a three-story building where the rooms either have a deck or a terrace. There is also a cozy bar where guests love to congregate for a drink before dinner to share their day’s adventures or enjoy a good book when the weather is chilly. The original house has the reception area, the dining rooms, and our preferred guestrooms. Although facing the street (so a bit less quiet), we would opt for one of the front guestrooms with a balcony that affords a lovely view looking up to the mountains. In addition to being such a pretty hotel, the Chalet Swiss has great warmth of welcome. Many staff members have been greeting returning guests for over 17 years. The owner, René Klopfer, worked at the Chalet Swiss for many years before buying it in 1999. He is now updating it and is restoring the somewhat dated décor in the main house guestrooms to their original, more rustic, chalet ambiance.
