Parador de Hondarribia

Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Parador de Hondarribia is located at the heart of the picturesque, medieval walled-town of Hondarribia (also called Fuenterrabía). Installed in a 12th-century castle, overlooking a square lined by brightly colored houses, the imposing stone castle was at one time occupied by Ferdinand and Isabella and also their grandson, Charles V. The building’s incredible 3-meter thick walls have withstood countless assaults over the centuries. An outstanding feature of the parador is its stone-paved lobby featuring lances, cannon, suits of armor, tapestries, and a remarkable, soaring 15-meter ceiling, overlooked through stone arches by a cozy lounge with a beamed ceiling. The interior glass-enclosed, flower-filled courtyard has comfortable wicker chairs, where you relax and enjoy a drink before going in to dinner. One side of the courtyard is the crumbling remains of the original stone wall. Beyond the inner courtyard, a broad outdoor terrace overlooks the boat-filled harbor. Not only are the setting and structure of this parador outstanding, but the public rooms rival those of the finest hotels in Spain. This is a very popular parador, be sure to book well in advance.
