Hotel America

Although officially holding just a one-star rating, the Hotel America is, in our estimation, far superior in many ways to some so-called “superior” class hotels. Its most outstanding feature is its location. You cannot be any closer to the portion of the Alhambra reserved for paying sightseers—the Hotel America is on the citadel grounds, just steps away from the entrance. But the America has more than location. The pretty, cream-colored stucco, three-story building with red-tiled roof is enhanced by lacy vines and black wrought-iron light fixtures. To the left of reception is a sitting area with a cozy clutter of old-fashioned furniture. On balmy days, guests’ favorite place to congregate is the inner courtyard—an inviting small oasis enhanced by blue-and-white-tile tables and an overhead leafy trellis. The only meals served are breakfast and lunch. Bedrooms are very nice and have air conditioning, which makes them very attractive for an afternoon rest on a hot summer day. Remember that this is a simple hotel, so if you are fussy and like everything just perfect, this is not the place for you. However, the Hotel America makes an excellent choice for a cozy, family-run hotel with an unbeatable location.
