Senhora da Guia

The Senhora da Guia is a captivating inn on the seaside road between Cascais and the Praia do Guincho. Set in a pine-studded property just across the road from the sea, it offers very special accommodations. It has enjoyed such popularity that rooms have been added throughout the years—most recently a restaurant with a panoramic view and a health club have also been included. A large annex with bedrooms arranged in a U shape around a central lawn is built on the slope above the original hotel. This section is very attractive and continues the same traditional architectural style of white-stuccoed walls, dark-green shutters, and red-tiled roof. The focal point of the public rooms remains in the original part of the house, which has a welcoming lounge with polished hardwood floor, Oriental rugs, marble fireplace, and cozy antiques. There is a gleaming wood bar at one end and sliding glass doors lead out to a shady verandah with a terrific view looking over the pretty saltwater swimming pool and beyond to the sparkling sea. A spectacular crystal-and-wood stairway leads upstairs to the high-ceilinged, whitewashed bedrooms—comfortably old-fashioned, well proportioned, and tastefully decorated. Take advantage of the setting and request a bedroom with a lovely sea view.
