Heart of the Village Inn

Aptly named, this inn is located right on Route 7 in the middle of Shelburne where you can walk to shops, restaurants and the Shelburne Museum. It’s an 1886 Queen Anne Victorian with front doors made out of tiger oak. There are two common rooms for guests to relax in, scrolled woodwork, and comfortable armchairs. The inn’s nine very comfortable bedrooms, several of which can be made into twins, are divided between the main house and the carriage barn. I stayed in the Fletcher Room with a queen bed, a chair to relax in by the window, a skylight, and a full private bath with tub and shower. Though the rooms may be decorated in Victorian style, they lack nothing for the comfort of the guest: air conditioning, flatscreen TVs, free WiFi, and telephones are standard. A great American breakfast is served in the mornings from 8:30 to 9:30am so you can partake at your pleasure. In the afternoon after a day of busy activity, return to the inn for a cup of tea and a cookie—just enough to tide you over till you walk to one of the neighboring restaurants. Hospitality is high on the list of reasons to stay at this inn and the innkeeper makes sure that you are more than welcome. The inn is on the main street and double glazing makes the rooms quieter, but you’re still aware that you are in town.
