Think casual, think relaxed, think of a place where you can put your feet up, read a book, and be totally natural and without pretense. Think October Country Inn! In this quaint, ten-bedroom inn, a 19th-century farmhouse, you’ll find sincere hospitality and delicious food. This is the kind of inn where they will put an extra bed in the room for that third person traveling with you. Some of the upstairs bedrooms are under the eaves but they’re quite spacious enough for a good night’s rest. Rooms have flowered wallpapers and a variety of brass, iron, and wooden headboards. Be sure to save some time to sit by the fire in the living room: a table behind the sofa had so many games on it, I couldn’t figure out which I’d play first. This inn is noted for its food and its reputation has spread far and wide, although breakfast and dinner are offered only to resident guests. There’s a swimming pool on the grounds, gardens for walking in, and plenty of diversions nearby—skiing, golf, cycling, summer theatre, and antiquing, to name just a few.
