Buttonwood Inn

Located away from the bustling commercial areas of North Conway, the acclaimed Buttonwood Inn sits on a hill amidst 6 acres of fields and forest—yet it’s just minutes to the ski areas and to town. This inn was originally an 1820s farmhouse and the owners have retained that country atmosphere with antiques, quilts, and period stenciling. There are ten well-appointed bedrooms, each with private bath. My favorite was a room painted in a shade of cream that had a pencil-post four-poster queen bed, wonderful wide-board floors, scattered area rugs, a sofa, gas fireplace, spa tub for two, cable TV, DVD and telephone. Breakfasts are special here. Guests have no trouble finding a good restaurant for dinner in North Conway or Jackson. When you’re not out exploring the surrounding area, you can swim in the inn’s heated pool, relax in the outdoor hot tub, enjoy the award-winning gardens, and hike or cross-country ski nearby. North Conway offers seven major ski resorts, more than 200 tax-free shops and outlets, over 50 restaurants, golf, tubing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, ice-skating, snowshoeing, and sleigh rides.
