Inn at Stockbridge

From what I had read I was expecting our stay at this Inn to be a wonderful experience. The building is very impressive when you arrive but I was upset with the slightly offhand welcome we received. From what I had read I was expecting our stay at this Inn to be a wonderful experience. The building is very impressive when you arrive but I was upset with the slightly offhand welcome we received. Unfortunately we had to change rooms because of mosquitoes in the bathroom, resulting from recent work having been carried out in the room. We were upgraded to a larger room in the cottage house but were disappointed to find the maintenance and housekeeping was poor - cobwebs and dust surrounding the entrance door on the porch, dust at the edges of the bedroom carpet, missing light in the bathroom, scratched wallpaper and a stained toilet bowl. When you are in the garden, there is noise from the nearby Interstate although this is not evident once inside the bedroom. The lounges and dining room are charming, offering comfortable seating for chatting with other guests over afternoon wine or reading quietly. There is also guest internet facility. The gardens are lovely and the pool looked inviting and well cared for and the verandah with its pretty seating was very pleasant. Breakfast was adequate but not up to the standard we had experienced in other New England Inns. The location is great for visiting the nearby villages, especially Lenox, and other local attractions and the selection of restaurants is excellent. In my opinion The Inn at Stockbridge, while offering a good destination base, needs to address its housekeeping issues.

We regret that we were unable to meet this guests expectations. We pride ourselves on providing a wonderful experience to our guest. Housekeeping and maintenance are our top priority. Perhaps this was the end of their holiday and they were tired.
